Born in Asahikawa, Hokkaido, he started out in the manga and participated in various magazine contests. After having sent his drawings following an advertisement in Black Jack, he was noticed by Osamu TEZUKA. He then moved to Tokyo to become one of the master's assistants in 1976.
The following year, his one-shot Ô mother nature, be green! receives an honorable mention at the 13th edition of the Tezuka Prize. Buichi Terasawa then began working for Weekly Shônen Jump and started, in 1978, the publication of his major work:
Space Adventure Cobra. The series quickly became a great success and allowed the author to show all his creativity through futuristic and enigmatic universes, mixtures of his many influences. This first version of Cobra's adventures has 18 volumes and has occupied it for more than 6 years. It is adapted as a cartoon and will make the author and his hero known to the French public.
